Living Factually

Its amazing, and a little saddening, that the little Gradrinds are growing up without a childhood. Because their Father is so set to his beliefs in facts. The little Gradgrinds know no nursery rhymes or games, because they are not fact. In chapter three it says, "No little Gradgrind had ever seen a face in the moon; it was up in the moon before it could speak distinctly. No little Gradgrind had ever learnt the silly jingle, Twinkle, twinkle, little star, " this makes me a little upset, because Mr. Gradgrind is robbing his own children of their childhoods. How does this make you feel?

  1. I know that I am reminded of the fact that every parent has a lot of power over their children, and sometimes that power is unwisely used. Gradgrind doubles the problem by sending his children to a school that believes the same thing.
